Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing: Mother Teresa

What? Mother Teresa was a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Yep. Let’s start with what exactly is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

In the book of Matthew, verse 7:15, Jesus tells us to “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

Jesus also said in Matthew 24:24, “For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.”

So was Mother Teresa really a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Although I don’t believe if she ever preformed a miracle, she surely showed great signs of love and compassion toward those much less fortunate than herself.

No doubt that she really cared for people in the midst of their hardships and sicknesses. I can’t argue that she didn’t do great things in India, well above and beyond the “call of duty”. She puts most people to shame with her unselfish sacrifice and dedication to service.

But, does all this make a person a Christian? No it doesn’t. The only thing that makes a person a Christian is their belief in Jesus Christ of the Bible; and that only He is the way to have our sin forgiven. That only He is “the way, the truth and the life” and that “no one goes to the Father except through Jesus”.

Is this what Mother Teresa believed? Here are some quotes she made to describe her beliefs and about who gets to heaven. Now you can decide if she was a Christian or not.

“I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, 'How many good things have you done in your life?' rather he will ask, 'How much love did you put into what you did?”

For one thing, God’s not going to ask us anything! He’s going to open the Lamb’s Book of Life and if our name isn’t in it, we’re not going to heaven. Plus, if He did ask us a question, I’m betting it’ll be in the line of, “Did you believe in my son and what did you do with that belief?”

“I’ve always said we should help a Hindu become a better Hindu, a Muslim become a better Muslim, a Catholic become a better Catholic.”

Isn’t helping someone get better at doing their godless religion just affirming their religion? Why would they then ever want to become a Christian?

“Some call Him Ishwar, some call Him Allah, some simply God, but we have to acknowledge that it is He who made us for greater things: to love and be loved. What matters is that we love. We cannot love without prayer, and so whatever religion we are, we must pray together.”

Really? It doesn’t matter what religion we are? All we have to do is pray together? Well, I tell you what, you pray to that rock over there and I’ll pray to that sock on the clothesline over here and we’ll all meet in heaven someday!

She was overheard saying to a dying man, “You say a prayer in your religion, and I will say a prayer as I know it. Together we will say this prayer and it will be something beautiful for God.”

Here was her chance to tell a dying soul about Jesus Christ yet she dishonored God, Jesus and that man by godless rhetoric.

Mother Teresa was no saint, and no Christian. On judgment day, she’ll be on the left side of God with the other goats. Hell and destruction is her destiny; not heaven and the glory of God.

We all need to be discerning in the people we trust; it doesn’t matter who they are, we need to be diligent in making sure we look up to true Christians.

If ive sent this to the wrong person im sorry

You're so jealous of Mother Teresa that you'll sit on the couch feet up eaching crisps saying I believe so im getting their and saying that people who try their best that sometimes lack faith are going to hell. A good tree can not bear bad fruit. You quote the book of revelation and st paul but listen to Jesus words. Never said "You believed in me and you didn't" Sola fide is a heresy for LAZY CRITICS. The gospel should come first in scripture. many who say lord lord to him will be told "away from me you evil doers". I can say many will say "lord we lacked or never heard of you and he'll say "you know me"

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Matthew 25:31-46

Mother teresa will be a lamb and most will be goats.

Sorry if I sound awquard it just really upset me. St Paul did say we are saved by faith in Christ but "alone" was added to his writings by Martin Luther

I am the way he says and Jesus way is to help others. EVERYONE who helps others from the heart constantly is following his way if they are not DELIBERATLY rejecting him which would make no sense anyway.

Those who say "i believe in Jesus Christ and im saved so thats it " will be SO SHOCKED

If ive sent this to the wrong person "Im Sorry"

God bless you

I just read this and I know this comment is almost 4 years later but all of this is obviously still very relevant for us.
I would first like to say that I can appreciate the fact that you're upset with Frank's article. My first comment to the article is I don't see that it's up to believers to make the judgement of who goes to heaven or hell, that's reserved for God and him alone. Though with that said we do need judge people we follow based on scripture so we don't get led astray. Now its important to recall (Gal.2:21)"if righteousness could have been gained though the law (by works), Christ died for nothing". I agree its important to take action and perform it with the proper attitude but it still in know way replaces faith in the Savior. You can also see in Romans 11:6.
I believe that Roman Catholicism is so focused on the mentality of works it leads people astray from Christ. This just goes to show that rightly dividing the word is essential for those that confess Christ, but I also believe in God's grace.
The other issue to me is the fact she avoided addressing the those religions that are contrary to Christianity. I struggle greatly with seeing this as something acceptable. To treat the death of Christ as "oh, yep he died for you but no worries that's just one way there are many others". This I find terribly offensive! You know many Christians treat Jewish people as though they have no need to experience salvation in Christ because of the old testament and I find this absolutely ridiculous. Look at Ephesians 2:11-18, the Jews and Gentiles, that is Israel and those who were not (everyone else)this includes Muslims and so on. According to these verses because of what Christ did (suffered unto death to reconcile man to God) this gave us ALL (Jews and Gentiles) a pathway to righteousness that we otherwise would not have attained.
So with all that said, good works only matter in Christ and done for God's glory.
I'll end with this quote I heard some years ago, "are you willing to do for the Truth what others will do for a lie".

Hi Tim, thanks for your comments, you are always very thoughtful and loving in and how you say things. I tend to sometimes be more blunt, as in this post I made so long ago. But, my views haven't changed. Paul Edwards is professing a "works-based" salvation. Jesus and the apostles preached a "faith-based" salvation.

Peter and Paul let us know, in no uncertain terms, that it is by faith that we are saved, not by works. Mother Teresa demonstrated over and over that, although she greatly loved people, she did not have the faith and knowledge required for her salvation.

The blame for this goes to the Catholic Church. It has lead millions of people into the darkness of false belief and false service for a thousand years! I have talked to a lot of Catholics (and am married to an ex-catholic) and they really have no clue as to what the Bible says about faith and grace.

It is sad. The Roman Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, etc. are mislead by their teachers and they refuse to explore the scripture for themselves (as Martin Luther once did).

I have been ostracized in the past for naming false Christians and warning the sheep to watch out for the wolves. I'm sure the same will happen in the future. But I continue to teach the Word of God as I understand it, and making corrections as lead by the Spirit.

Paul Edwards: I'm not perfect in all my beliefs. But neither are you and your comments did not give me pause to reconsider what I believe. God bless you and me as we continue to seek the God of our salvation.
